Medway Valley
For many years, we have enjoyed the trails in the Medway. However, one trail was actually on private property and signs were posted to let people know this. Please respect private property. Please respect the signage that has been installed. Someone is going out of their way to destroy the signage. Please don’t hesitate to report such actions to the police.
Also, with migratory birds returning, please consider keeping your cats indoors.
Sarnia and Western Road
The next (and last) public information session on the Sarnia and Western Road changes probably won’t be held until the fall of this year.
Wharncliffe/Western Road Widening (Phase 1)
This project will be starting this fall and will run to the end of 2018. The first phase is widening the road and railroad underpass between Oxford and Saunby Streets. There will be road closures but only over weekends according to the City’s consulting engineers.
Open House – Ranked Ballots
The City will be holding Open Houses on March 8 and March 9 to provide the public with information on a proposed by-law for a ranked ballot election and to give the public an opportunity to review and ask questions about how a ranked ballot election would be conducted; an estimate of the costs of conducting the elections; a description of the voting equipment and vote-counting equipment, if any, that is being considered; and a description of any alternative voting method being considered. To date, the City of London has used “First-Past-the-Post” (i.e. person with the most votes wins) ballots. However, it is presently considering moving to “Ranked” Ballots (i.e. the voter would rank the candidates in order of preference). A subsequent Public Participation Meeting will be held to receive formal public input on moving from a “First-Past-the-Post” to a “Ranked” Ballot Election.
Councillor Squire will be at the North London Community Centre on March 8 and Stronach Community Centre on March 9. There will then be a public participation meeting on Saturday April 22 at 11:00 am at City Hall before Council decides. He looks forward to hearing from constituents before he votes. If you wish to express your opinion by e-mail please do so to psquire@london.ca
