Ward 6 meeting, Metamora contruction, trees, and bees.

METAMORA STORM SEWER RECONSTRUCTION: We have been advised that the work on the project will likely start late July or early August and run for approximately 6 weeks. The restoration plan includes native trees and shrubs. Additionally, native seed mix (a bee pollinator mix) is proposed for any disturbed areas from the construction. In total, 52 trees will be planted within the project area. This is the maximum number of trees that can be planted to ensure adequate spacing. Other areas within Medway Creek will be identified for planting the remaining number of compensation trees. Also included within the area are two bat boxes.

SHERWOOD FOREST PARK The city still plans to plant more shade trees along the pathways in the park as well as planting grasses, shrubs, and other plants in the “squares” by the seating areas. This work will either take place before the hot weather begins or the fall. The trees and turf grass planted last year will be inspected and any bare patches or trees that did not do well will be replaced.

REFOREST LONDON TREE GIVE AWAY TO FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 18: ReForest London has secured special funding to have kids and their families to plant trees. London families with children under the age of 18 are invited to get a free tree for their yard through this Neighbourhood Tree Depot tree-giveaway program. This Tree Depot only runs from May 12th to May 20th, so order quickly. All orders must be submitted more than 24 hours in advance of pick-uptime. Neighborhood Update

Update from the OPSFR Executive

We have postponed the BBQ and Annual General Meeting for the Orchard Park Sherwood Forest Ratepayers until further notice. Hopefully we can arrange something in the fall. We will also delay the collection of dues.

Please note that the Next Door mailing you may have received is not something that the Ratepayers have initiated.

Update on Sherwood Forest Park and Road Work on Runnymede and Abbey Rise

We are waiting to hear from City staff whether or not the park development is one of the projects the city will be delaying because of its financial crunch due to COVID-19. One project that is currently still on the books for this year is the road work on Runnymede. However, we have been advised at this point, work on Abbey Rise is delayed a year.

Reminder: Volunteers in the Neighbourhood

As a reminder, there are volunteers in the neighbourhood willing to help out. Please don’t hesitate to contact Sandy if you would like someone to pick up groceries or other items you need.

From Councillor Squire – Ward Meeting, Monday, March 19th

Just to give everyone a quick heads up, I will be having my final ward meeting of this term of Council on Monday March 19 from 7-9 pm at Kings College in the Dante Lenardon Hall. There will be 2 topics on the agenda, the first being community safety. We will have a police officer there to answer any questions about neighbourhood safety and in particular break-ins. The other topic will be BRT and how it is being proposed in Ward 6. I will be updating you on the plan that will be going to Council for approval on April 9. I will also have a guest speaker, Frank Moretti who is a transportation policy analyst and can comment on different transit plans in North America and future trends. I hope people will come out to give me input on these two topics. It is really important that people be there and show interest.
