Road Work and Storm Sewers Repairs

We have not heard any updates about any planned road work and storm sewer work for this year. Last year, February was when residents got letters in the mail from the City about projects on their street. Keep an eye on your mail.

The city plans storm sewer remediation work in the area of the Metamora entrance to the Medway Valley Environmentally Significant Area. There will be a notice mailed to nearby residents and we will circulate the City notice more widely. We have suggested to city staff that they hold a virtual open house before the full project starts. The first part of the project requires tree removals; however replantings are a requirement. Stay tuned for details.

Porch Thieves

You are probably aware that with all the deliveries to home, some sneak thieves are around. Not all delivery people ring a bell when they drop off a package. Keep an eye out if you are out and about.

New Residents

You may have noticed a lot of new activity around the new development next to Sherwood Forest Park. Looks like a number of new neighbours are arriving. If you see a house that sells in the area, let us know so that we can arrange for a welcome package for them.

Annual BBQ and AGM

The Ratepayer Executive will be discussing the timing of our annual BBQ and AGM.

City is Looking for Input

There are a couple of requests for input from the City of London. If you go to the getinvolved.london.ca you will see requests for input on the upcoming green bin program (the city is required to do this as a condition of getting approval to expand the landfill) and the development of a climate emergency action plan.

To report COVID-19 order violation concerns about businesses and individuals who are not following COVID-19 related orders now have a way to report those concerns. The City of London, working with London Police Service and the Middlesex-London Health Unit have established a process to act on concerns that are reported.

Neighborhood Update

Update from the OPSFR Executive

We have postponed the BBQ and Annual General Meeting for the Orchard Park Sherwood Forest Ratepayers until further notice. Hopefully we can arrange something in the fall. We will also delay the collection of dues.

Please note that the Next Door mailing you may have received is not something that the Ratepayers have initiated.

Update on Sherwood Forest Park and Road Work on Runnymede and Abbey Rise

We are waiting to hear from City staff whether or not the park development is one of the projects the city will be delaying because of its financial crunch due to COVID-19. One project that is currently still on the books for this year is the road work on Runnymede. However, we have been advised at this point, work on Abbey Rise is delayed a year.

Road reconstruction and sidewalks on Runnymede Crescent and Abbey Rise

An update via Councillor Squire:

Runnymede Plan
Runnymede Crescent and Abbey Rise will be reconstructed this upcoming summer due to their current road condition. As per Council direction the City will be installing new sidewalks in the boulevard along the entire length of these roadways. To minimize tree impacts the sidewalk will be installed on one side only. While not ideal the City will also be installing the sidewalk immediately behind the curb to further minimize tree impacts, however this still requires a large number of trees to be removed.

Abbey Rise Plan
Here are the scope of work and schedules for the Runnymede Crescent and Abbey Rise projects, with the number of trees to be removed, a street view of the current condition and a map reflecting the trees that will be removed to allow for the installation of the sidewalk. The trees indicated on the map are the minimum number to be removed. The City is currently finalizing the design and will then do a walk thru with Forestry staff to determine if any others on the boulevard opposite the sidewalk need to be removed for health and/or construction related reasons.

The City will be holding an information session prior to construction. The usual procedure is to notify those on the street of the information session thru a mailing.

Notice of Public Information Centre #2 – Municipal Class Environmental Assessment – Western Road/Wharncliffe Road North Widening from Platts Lane to Oxford Street

The City of London is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to identify a strategy for the necessary transportation infrastructure requirements along Western Road and Wharncliffe Road North, from Platts Lane to Oxford Street.

The second Public Information Centre (PIC) is scheduled for Wednesday April 1, 2015 at Kinsmen Recreation Centre, 20 Granville Street from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

This meeting will be an open house format with no formal presentation being made. Information presented will include design alternatives to address the preferred planning solution, an overview of the related advantages and disadvantages of each alternative, and the selection of the recommended design.

Meeting with London transit on its service review

The current bus routes and service review will identify improvements to the system. The LTC is inviting everyone to drop in sessions to hear about the proposed changes. The drop in sessions will be held at two times on April 8th. Both sessions will be at Goodwill Industries, 255 Horton Street East (just west of Wellington) from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm.

Community Mailboxes

Canada Post will have notified you by now if a Community Mailbox (CMB) will be located on the road allowance next to your house. There will be about 30 in the area, each containing about 30 boxes, given we have about 900 households in the area.

Canada Post advises if anyone has been notified because a site is going next to their property, you certainly still have a chance to voice a concern. You should call the customer contact centre as soon as possible and ask to speak to a supervisor regarding the site. Someone will get back to you. If you haven’t been contacted again after calling the centre, please contact Sandy Levin and he’ll pass along this information to the staff member who is in charge of this initiative. The call centre number is 1-844-454-3009.

Seniors and those with mobility difficulties can call the call centre number now to discuss Canada Post’s accommodation program. Seniors and persons with mobility issues in getting to the CMB will be able to speak to someone directly about your concern, and if you choose to, you can begin a request for accommodation.

Canada Post is not yet ready to send out location letters to everyone because its initial suggested locations are still under review as part of its process. Once the locations are finalized, Canada Post will let all affected residents know the CMB location by letter.

Western Road and Sarnia Road Improvements

Sherwood Forest Branch Library Events

Celebrating Seniors, April 8 from 2 to 3 pm. There will be a presentation by the Canadian Hearing Society on “hearing Loss and Communication Issues.”

The Lego Creation Station is held the first Saturday of every month starting in May, from 2:30 to 3: 30 pm.
