Community Social and ratepayer AGM – May 28

Mark May 28th in your calendar. Your executive is busy planning a fun event to precede our Annual General Meeting. Please spread the word. Councillor Squire will be available for questions. We are working on a presentation/speaker on a city topic. Did you want to hear about the Medway Valley Conservation Master Plan? The Rapid Transit Plan? LTC’s Service Improvement Plan? Let us know.

We are still looking for new members of the Executive. Please contact Sandy Levin if you are interested.

Sherwood Forest School Demolition

This report is on the agenda for a City Committee for April 21. If approved by Committee and then by Council on April 28th, demolition will start in May.

Medway Valley Heritage Forest

The city is continuing its trail planning for the Medway. You can see the consultant’s report at
http://www.london.ca/residents/Environment/Natural-Environments/Pages/Conservation-Plans.aspx

Further work is planned for 2015 with the a presentation to City Council’s Planning and Environment Committee in July and the formation of a city-led Local Advisory Committee in 2015 which will consider trail locations and other management matters.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority which manages the Forest for the City reports that a large beech at the top of the staircase has had several upper branches removed to reduce the weight on the lean side of the tree , which is a “target to the staircase.”

There are 2 trees within the staircase, a yellow birch and an Ironwood. These trees are creating stress on the stairs so they may be cut as well this year.

Community Mailboxes

Here is what the community mailboxes will look like when installed.Community mailboxesThe photo shows the maximum grouping of three that we have been told will be installed within the neighbourhood. Some locations will have only one or two units.

Be Alert and Lock your Car

With the warmer weather, I have been advised of a car being broken into on Lonsdale. Be sure to lock your car if you are leaving it outside and be sure to report an incidents to the police.

Sherwood Forest School site update

City staff have provided us with an opportunity (with short turnaround time) to provide ideas for the Request for Proposals (RFP) that will be circulated to builders for the part of the school site that will be used for housing.

Your Executive and School Site Committee have the following DRAFT which will go to City staff at the end of this week (March 13). Your thoughts and ideas would be appreciated. We would also like your opinion on the highest priority criteria as it is unlikely the entire list will make it into the final city document.

Comments and thoughts can be emailed to Sandy Levin. If you would like a copy of the Neighbourhood Character Statement, please let Sandy know.
