As you may have noticed, the owner of the white house at 260 Sarnia Road (south side of Sarnia Road next to the new Western residence) had applied for a zoning change. The request was to knock down the house and garage and put up a 4-plex with five bedrooms each.
Saturday’s Free Press had a story about the Greenway Pollution Control Plant. The story stated “The city is now running a trial in the Sherwood Forest area to determine if it can disconnect sewer and storm pipes in the neighbourhood….”
According to the City Engineer, prior to 1984/85…perimeter drains that surround the basements of homes were permitted to be connected to the sanitary drain connection from our homes. The purpose of these drains was to manage the ground water influences on the basement. Most homes backfilled at or near the basement with sandy or permeable soils…when it rains the water from eaves makes its way to the perimeter drain and then into the sanitary sewers in a hurry. The influence of this component is significant and a principle cause for sewage overloading in the sanitary sewage system.
