Results of Halloween Survey

Here are the results of the OPSF Halloween Survey.

It seems like most people in our neighbourhood who answered the survey like to participate in Halloween, but it won’t be as busy a night this year for participation.

Here is a spreadsheet with three tabs showing the results of the survey questions as well as a grouping of the open-ended comments.

207 respondents answered the survey. (There are approximately 900 households in the neighborhood and about 500 people are on the e mail list).

The comments indicate that it is a pretty close split between don’t do it and leave treats out, or handing out via social distancing. Also, many people have ideas about their own parties etc.

So it seems like Halloween will happen in our area for those who want to participate – which will largely be by leaving out treats or social distancing. Likely there will be fewer kids participating this year given the families who report they want to do their own event with a few friends or just their family.

Information sheet on unsanctioned gatherings

We received an information sheet from Councillor Squire regarding information about social gatherings during the COVID 19 restrictions.

Sneak thieves

Sneak thieves are still about. If you do park your car outside, be sure it is locked. It is also recommended that you bring your garage door opener indoors so that it doesn’t become a target for a thief.

No AGM in 2020

The Executive wants to remind you that we are not holding our ratepayers Annual General Meeting this year out of an abundance of caution. We are also extending the length of paid memberships to May 2021. If you did pay membership since this May, your membership will remain current until May 2022.

Traffic disruptions around Western Sept 3-7

From Western’s Housing Office

With the new school year just around the corner, Western University is going to welcome thousands of students coming back to the campus and the city of London in a few days. This year, residence move-in days will be extended to five days, from Thursday, September 3 to Monday September 7, 2020. During this period, increased traffic is expected on campus and in the surrounding areas. To assist with student pedestrian safety during Orientation Week, University Bridge and sections of Lambton Drive, Huron Drive and Philip Aziz Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from Monday, September 7 until Saturday, September 12, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. each night.

Update on the new park

The City plans to open the Sherwood Forest Park sometime in August. They still need to do various inspections of the work and they want the turf grass to get established, hopefully with some rainy weather. New trees will be planted in the fall.
