Orchard Park Sherwood Forest Neighbourhood Association is a London, Ontario, Canada based neighbourhood organization serving the Orchard Park and Sherwood Forest areas of London. The area is approximately bounded on the west by Wonderland Road, Sarnia Road on the South, Gainsborough Road to the North, the University of Western Ontario and the Medway Valley.

Open House for Proposed LTC Service Changes

LTC is proposing service changes in our area including running buses along Lawson Road during evenings and weekends. LTC is seeking input on this change.

There will be an open house at the Sherwood Branch library on Tuesday, November 27th between 2 and 4 pm and between 6 and 8 pm. The change in our area would be to the #9 and #31 route. See http://www.londontransit.ca/news-service-updates/north-end-changes-route-9-14-25-31-32-34-and-40/

The London Transit Commission will be making a final decision on this and other route changes at an open public meeting sometime in January.

Cinderella at Banting

Banting S.S. Presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Production of Cinderella, Enchanted Edition.

This amazing musical for the entire family is taking place at Banting’s Auditorium, December 6th-8th.

Adult tickets are $15 each, student and seniors, $10. Children under 5 are free.

Proposed LTC Service Changes

LTC is proposing service changes in our area including running buses along Lawson Road during evenings and weekends. LTC is seeking input on this change. You may have already received a card in the mail.

There will be an open house at the Sherwood Branch library on November 27th between 2 and 4 pm and between 6 and 8 pm. There is also an on line survey at londontransit.ca under Service Updates. You have to do a little digging to find the change as there are a number of other changes – the change in our area would be to the #9 route. You can also e-mail comments to ltcserviceplan@gmail.com

The last time this change was proposed, it was quite contentious. LTC will be making a final decision on this and other route changes in January.

Development at the Sherwood Forest School Site

The City will be holding a meeting in late January to review options for the park development. The public participation meeting at City Hall for the site plan for the new housing development is to be held on January 7, 2019. We don’t have the time yet, but will post that when available. According to the developer, if all goes well at City Hall, construction of the new housing will begin in March of 2019.

Sherwood Forest School Site Development and Park Planning

The developer hopes to have an approval for the site plans for the new housing on the site at Annadale and Wychwood at City Council’s Planning and Environment Committee meeting on December 7th. We will let you know when a date and time are confirmed. It will be an open public meeting and anyone in attendance can speak. Letters can also be submitted to appear on the agenda by writing pec@london.ca

City staff are looking at the week of January 28th for an evening meeting in the neighbourhood to hear what park amenities we would like to see in the portion of the site that will be a park. Stay tuned for date and location. City staff have been asked to check with the schools to confirm there are no conflicting school events that week.

Catch Basins

At this time of the year it is important to keep the catch basins near your house clear of leaves so that the water doesn’t flood the street or driveways. The city street sweeping is not frequent enough to do it. So be nice and clear the catch basin.

Snow Angels

Snow Angels London is an experiment in kindness: a way for Londoners to request assistance shoveling or to find others in need of such assistance. It’s a simple tool that will allow people to register and find others near them – both people who need assistance AND those willing to help.

Know a student who needs volunteer hours? (There is a printable tracking sheet for that.) Maybe notice someone who needs assistance lives near someone you know? Reach out to friends, family and neighbours who may be able to step up and help shovel out our city. For some winter can be a cold and lonely time — but we can help change that.

If you know someone who needs the service but does not have a computer, you can register them at the website. Please spread the word.

1. The Mayor is only one vote. You need 7 other votes to agree with you. Other than BRT, what one issue is your priority for getting 7 other members of Council to agree with you and why?

2. Last Council overruled the Minister of Municipal Affairs who said London could restrict secondary dwelling units from the Near Campus Area. Will you support a motion to reconsider Council’s decision?

3. The Medway Valley Heritage Forest Environmentally Significant Area is a part of our community. What have you done that would give us an idea of how you would deal with issues affecting the Medway and other environmentally significant areas in London?

King’s University College is holding a Mayoral Debate on Oct 3rd at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm) in the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre, Student Life Centre, 266 Epworth Ave. There is event parking available on site (free). The theme is the “Future of London” and it is organized by several student groups on campus. The first hour is questions by a student panel. The second hour is open mic questions. New Aurelia House Opens

Catch Basins

Remember to keep the catch basin near your home clear of leaves and other debris. By doing so, you reduce the risk of street and other flooding.

Reminder

Keep your car and garage doors locked. One of those who has their car riffled through wanted to remind neighbours that garage door openers are often targeted – you may want to consider keeping them indoors overnight.
