Note from Western regarding the start of the new academic year

As move-in approaches, please note that noise complaints are to be directed to the London Police non-emergency line at 519-661-5670. Details will be forwarded to Municipal Law Enforcement, and police will only attend in cases of extraordinary circumstances or serious safety concerns. By law enforcement will also be conducting proactive educational visits at properties that raised concerns last year.

Off-Campus Advisors

Our Off-Campus Advisors are beginning their passive and in-person educational campaigns, reminding students about bylaws related to noise, alcohol, parking, and property upkeep. Western Off Campus Housing is also collaborating with the City on additional house visits later in September to educate students on upcoming waste management changes, including composting and scheduling.

Residence Move-In

  • International students arrived on campus this week.
  • Domestic Students are scheduled to arrive from Saturday, August 30th, to Monday, September 1st.
  • Western is hoping to ensure road closures and traffic do not disrupt city streets, and will reroute if backups or concerning traffic patterns develop.
  • Information on road closures can be found here
  • Information on move-in for Clare Hall (Brescia) is here

Orientation Week Events (September 1-September 6)

  • More Information about Orientation Week scheduling can be found here:  www.oweek.ca
  • Opening Ceremonies and Concert (Monday, September 1st)
  • Closing Ceremonies and Concert (September 6)
  • New this year, Orientation Serves (a community engaged learning event) will be happening throughout the week as opposed to a weekend to allow for more engagement with students as well as community partners throughout the city.  OServes is a day for incoming, first-year students to immerse themselves in the London community for a day of volunteering and learning about local organizations. This allows students to be engaged and connected to the London community and learn how they can make a positive impact.

Western’s Homecoming (September 26-28)

A campus-wide planning committee has been meeting with the City of London Bylaw team. Western Off Campus Housing will host door-to-door canvassing with Bylaw, the London Police COR Unit and student/professional staff from Western Housing and King’s College.

New this year, COR is also engaging restaurants and bars on Richmond Row to provide education on online management and overall safety. In addition, Western will coordinate site visits with fraternities and sororities near campus to share information about harm reduction, city bylaws, and neighbour relations. A more detailed Homecoming plan will be circulated after Orientation Week.
